Basic Farming Skills
Teaching basic farming skills is an essential part of empowering individuals, especially in rural areas, to improve their agricultural practices and enhance food security. These skills include fundamental knowledge about soil preparation, planting techniques, irrigation methods, crop rotation, pest control, and harvesting. By providing training in these areas, individuals gain the tools they need to increase their productivity, improve the health of their land, and sustain their livelihoods. Additionally, learning about animal husbandry, sustainable farming practices, and basic tools and equipment maintenance further enriches farmers’ ability to manage their farms efficiently.

Tree Planting campaign
Tree planting campaigns are community-driven initiatives aimed at restoring the environment, fighting climate change, and promoting sustainable development. In Uganda, where deforestation and land degradation are major challenges, such campaigns play a crucial role in protecting natural resources. Schools, youth groups, NGOs, and local communities are actively engaged in planting trees to restore forest cover, improve soil fertility, and ensure a greener, healthier future for the next generation.
Uganda is losing around 122,000 hectares of forest cover annually. Uganda Radio Network
In certain reports, forest loss is driven heavily by illegal logging, demand for fuelwood (charcoal), converting land for agriculture, and weak regulation/enforcement
According to Uganda’s third National Voluntary Review (VNR) report (2024), forest cover increased from ~9.5% in 2015 to ~13.3%
- Environmental Protection – Trees reduce soil erosion, restore degraded land, and help regulate rainfall patterns.
- Climate Change Mitigation – By absorbing carbon dioxide, trees combat global warming and reduce the effects of climate change.
- Food & Income Generation – Fruit and timber trees provide food, firewood, and marketable products, creating new income sources for families.
- Improved Health & Well-being – More trees improve air quality, provide shade, and create cleaner, cooler living environments.
- Community Empowerment & Education – Tree planting brings people together, instills environmental stewardship in children and youth, and strengthens community resilience.
Plant a tree today – grow a greener, healthier, and more sustainable Uganda.
